Policy Submission: The Review of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992
The Australian Government is reviewing the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 to ensure it aligns with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and addresses recommendations from the Disability Royal Commission. The review aims to strengthen protections, improve access to justice, and promote inclusion for people with disability across all areas of life.
Policy Submission: The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care: First consultation on the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (third edition)
The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care is reviewing the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards to ensure they remain relevant and effective in promoting safe, high-quality care. This first consultation for the third edition focuses on strengthening governance, integration, and cultural safety across the health system.

Earlier this week, LGBTIQ+ Health Australia CEO, Nicky Bath, attended a roundtable with the Hon Anika Wells MP, Minister for Communications and Minister for Sport; the Hon Emma McBride MP, Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention and Assistant Minister for Rural and Regional Health; and Julie Inman Grant, the eSafety Commissioner, to discuss the government’s new laws restricting access to social media platforms for people under the age of 16.
Statement in response to recent media regarding data on the lifetime rate of suicide attempt for trans and gender-diverse young people
LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) has noted recent media comments indicating data retrieved from the LHA website and used in a speech by Minister Jacinta Allan, Premier of Victoria was not referenced. An investigation into this matter can confirm that the figure used related to the lifetime rate of suicide attempts, is noted in multiple locations on our website, and all LHA reports are referenced.

On October 9, 2025, LGBTIQ+ Health Australia hosted a webinar exploring the findings of The Health and Wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ People in Rural Australia, a comprehensive review that highlights the health disparities, barriers to care, and opportunities for change affecting an estimated 340,000 LGBTIQA+ people living in regional, rural, and remote areas of Australia.
Policy and Research Webinar - Back into the closet: is aged care failing LGBTI+ older people?
On September 11, 2025, LGBTIQ+ Health Australia hosted a webinar presenting findings from a major study exploring the experiences of LGBTI+ older adults in aged care.
The review, conducted by The University of South Australia, drew on 55 studies containing the voices of more than 3000 LGBTI+ people aged 50-94 from 11 countries.

LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) has provided a submission on the draft 2025 Clinical Guidelines for the Early Detection of Prostate Cancer, welcoming the recognition that people other than cisgender men – including trans women, non-binary people and intersex people – may have a prostate and benefit from early detection.

The 2025 Australian federal election will be held on Saturday 3 May to elect members of the 48th Parliament of Australia. All seats of the House of Representatives and 40 of the 76 seats in the Senate will be contested.
