LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) has submitted its response to the consultation on the review of Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Health Assessment Items. In its submission, LHA highlights the significant health disparities experienced by LGBTIQ+ populations, which are often under-addressed in current MBS health assessments.

LHA supports a moderate restructuring of the MBS and the creation of new health assessment items that are specifically tailored to the unique needs of LGBTIQ+ people. These assessments would help address higher rates of mental health issues, substance use, and other chronic conditions, promoting early intervention and improving health outcomes.
