LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) has expressed concern that the 2026 Federal Budget contains no dedicated commitments to address urgent health and wellbeing needs of LGBTIQ+ communities, despite clear evidence and detailed recommendations put forward ahead of the Budget.

On May 12, 2026, LHA hosted a webinar where the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission presented on the Commission’s role, the grounds older people or their representatives can bring complaints, how it approaches complaints, and information it can share on the issues and complaints relating to LGBTI people’s experience.

LHA has launched a refreshed series of quarterly Member Networking Meetings in 2026, designed to facilitate connection, collaboration and shared learning across the LGBTIQ+ health and wellbeing sector.  

Following feedback from members, we are taking a slightly different approach to these sessions. Rather than focusing on a single topic, these meetings will provide space for people working across the sector to connect with one another. 

We often hear from member organisations that people can feel quite isolated in their roles, or removed from others doing similar work. These sessions are intended to create a regular opportunity to meet, have conversations, and build relationships across organisations and jurisdictions. 

The session will be lightly structured, with small-group breakout conversations and time to connect with others in a more informal setting. 

You are welcome to come along to share what you are working on, discuss challenges, or simply meet others across the sector. 

These sessions are open to anyone working within LHA’s Full Member, Regular Member, and Affiliate Member organisations, and are delivered online in an interactive format with facilitated small‑group discussions and activities.

On April 8, 2026, LGBTIQ+ Health Australia hosted a webinar presenting current evidence on the health experiences of LGBTIQ+ people in custodial environments and exploring the implications for policy, service delivery and system reform.

On March 11, 2026, LGBTIQ+ Health Australia hosted a webinar presenting new Australian evidence on gender-affirming care, mental health and Medicare reform.

LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) applauds the Victorian Government’s decision to introduce legislation that will protect children with innate variations of sex characteristics from medical interventions that can be safely delayed until they are old enough to make decisions for themselves. Victoria follows the ACT’s lead in becoming the second jurisdiction to introduce legislative reforms that support children to receive care that respects their autonomy, dignity and long-term wellbeing.

LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) advocates for access to safe, affirming and accessible gender-affirming care for trans and gender-diverse young people in Queensland, informed by clinical expertise, evidence, and the lived experience of young people and their families. 

LGBTIQ+ Health Australia acknowledges the Queensland Government’s harmful decision to continue its ban on puberty blockers and gender-affirming hormones for trans and gender diverse young people.
