Recent announcements at both the state and federal levels have raised questions about access to gender-affirming care for young people in Australia. This resource outlines what these changes mean and what to expect moving forward.

Medical experts, health bodies and LGBTIQ+ groups have cautiously welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement it will review the treatment guidelines for trans and gender diverse young people. 

But they said the process must be led by the experts, remain free of political interference and not block continued care across the country. 

LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) is seeking expressions of interest from LGBTI older people to participate on LHA’s Silver Pride Advocacy Network, Living Experience Advocacy Panel (LEAP).

The Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) advises the federal government on public funding for health services. It has received an application to fund gender affirming care for trans and gender-diverse people.

This is LGBTIQ+ Health Australia's Annual Report for 2023-2024.

Rainbow realities brings together existing findings and new analyses from six large scale surveys of LGBTQA+ populations in Australia: Private Lives 3, Writing Themselves In 4, SWASH, Trans Pathways, Walkern Katatdjin (Rainbow Knowledge) and Pride and Pandemic. In total, these surveys received more than 20,000 responses from all parts of the country.

In 2020, LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) received funding through the National Palliative Care Projects grant, through the Department of Health and Aged Care, to deliver several capacity building initiatives to improve the experiences of LGBTIQ+ people and their loved ones accessing palliative and end-of-life care.
