As Australia implements new vaping reforms, it is crucial to ensure that all communities, including LGBTIQ+ populations, are well-informed about these changes.
Recent data from the National Drug Strategy Household Survey 2022-2023 highlights a significant increase in vaping among LGBTIQ+ individuals, with 21% of gay, lesbian, and bisexual people currently using e-cigarettes—a threefold increase since 2019. This is notably higher than the general population.

Given the unique health challenges and disparities faced by LGBTIQ+ communities, tailored and inclusive communication is essential. Community-led communication is essential.
Research shows LGBTIQ+ people are more responsive to health messaging delivered by trusted community organisations.
