Important changes coming to My Health Record: What LGBTIQ+ communities need to know
Proposed changes to legislation for how pathology and diagnostic imaging results are shared on My Health Record are currently being considered.
For LGBTIQ+ communities who may have concerns about healthcare privacy and how information is shared, here's what you need to know:
What are the changes?
- Healthcare providers will soon be required to upload pathology and diagnostic imaging results to My Health Record.
- You maintain control over your health information and privacy settings.
What are my rights and options?
- You can choose not to have your results uploaded to My Health Record by asking your healthcare provider when getting any pathology tests or imaging.
- You can set up access controls to restrict which healthcare providers can see information in your record.
- You can hide sensitive documents from healthcare providers and healthcare provider organisations
- You can cancel your My Health Record registration at any time and the information in your record, including any backups, will be permanently deleted. This won’t delete the original copies of your documents, and these will still be available to the healthcare provider who uploaded them to begin with.
