Dementia & Alzheimer's Awareness Month 2022 - LGBTIQ+ Health Australia

Dementia & Alzheimer's Awareness Month 2022

Each September, people unite from all corners of the world to raise awareness and to challenge the stigma that persists around Alzheimer’s disease and all types of dementia.

The 2022 theme is ‘Know Dementia, Know Alzheimer’s’, the campaigns will have a special focus on post-diagnosis support to highlight the importance of support for people living with dementia and their loved ones following a diagnosis.

For older LGBTI people living with dementia entering aged care or accessing appropriate services is more difficult due to past life experiences.

This month, we’re asking for the sector and other organisations to put an LGBTI lens on dementia care, ensuring support is inclusive of LGBTI people living with dementia, their carers and loved ones.
