He has served as a PHAA Board Member 2020-2022 and is currently on his sixth term as the PHAA International Health SIG Co-Convenor. His works in LGBTQIA+ health advocacy in the Western Sydney region, nationally and internationally, as well as driving inclusion in the health, medicine and higher education sectors have been recognised with the ACON Honour Award in Health and Wellbeing 2022, the same year when he was conferred as a Fellow of the PHAA. Brahm has represented the PHAA in two national roundtables on Australia’s first 10-year National Action Plan for the Health and Wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ People.
Carolyn’s most recent role has been an executive position at the LGBTIQ+ community-controlled organisation Thorne Harbour Health. With five years as the Director of Services, Carolyn has been pivotal in the expansion of services and influencing systems to better respond to the needs of LGBTIQ+ people and communities and those living with HIV. During her time as Acting Chief Executive Officer this year, Carolyn oversaw the embedding of a community advisory framework that strengthened the centring of diverse experiences from across the LGBTIQ+ and HIV communities in all aspects of Thorne Harbour Health’s work. Carolyn Gillespie has a wealth of lived experience leadership and clinical expertise across healthcare, justice and the community service sector. Her work, both in Australia and internationally, has seen her establish and lead large organisational and systemic cultural change and deliver excellence in client-led healthcare programs. This year, she was appointed to the federal government’s Expert Advisory Group to oversee the development of Australia’s first national action plan for LGBTIQA+ health and wellbeing. In her work as Chair of the national peak organisation LGBTIQ+ Health Australia, Carolyn has seen first-hand the power of centring lived experience in these processes.
