QLife Consumer Advisory Group - LGBTIQ+ Health Australia

EOI: QLife Consumer Advisory Group

Introduction

QLife supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans/transgender, intersex, queer, asexual, sistergirl and brotherboy and other and other sexuality, gender, and bodily diverse people (LGBTIQA+SB people) by phone and webchat. People contact us to talk about things like sexuality, gender, bodies, feelings, relationships, and more. QLife staff and volunteers are from LGBTIQA+SB communities. We also want to hear directly from people who use QLife, so we can keep improving the service.

What is the Consumer Advisory Group?

QLife started a Consumer Advisory Group in 2024. The main reason for this group is to make sure QLife stays connected to what LGBTIQA+SB people need. It is a small group of people who have used QLife (consumers) who attend meetings and helps to make sure QLife is the best service it can be, by:

  • sharing what works well at QLife and what could be better
  • giving advice based on lived experience
  • helping QLife to make better decisions for LGBTIQA+SB communities

We are looking for two new members to join the group and stay on until at least June 2027.

What you will do

As a member, you will:

  • share your experiences using QLife and/or similar services
  • give us feedback on how QLife works (our systems, processes, and service design)
  • help us understand what changes would make QLife better and safer for LGBTIQA+SB communities
  • join group discussions and offer ideas and recommendations

Examples of topics

  • reviewing feedback from people who use QLife and suggesting solutions
  • advising on proposed changes to QLife and how those changes should look
  • providing guidance on training for QLife staff
  • testing new service ideas before they are introduced

How we work together (our principles)

We aim to make the Consumer Advisory Group safe, respectful, and useful.

Group members agree to:

  • collaborate and listen to each other
  • use a trauma-informed approach for LGBTIQA+SB communities
  • use anti-oppressive practice (we challenge racism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, and other harm)
  • practise cultural humility (we keep learning and stay open)
  • maintain confidentiality (what’s shared in the group stays in the group)
  • be accountable and transparent about decisions
