Gender affirming care in Australia:
Navigating barriers and opportunities.
Wednesday 26 March 2025| 2:00pm AEDT
LHA will be holding a Member Network Meeting on Wednesday 26 March from 2pm - 3pm AEST with Professor Ashleigh Lin and Doctor Eloise Brook, President and CEO of AusPATH, to discuss the current landscape and advocacy priorities.
Access to gender-affirming care in Australia remains highly variable, particularly for young people. While some states have well-established child and youth services, there are significant barriers, including long wait times, limited specialist availability, and increasing political and legal scrutiny. These barriers can have serious mental health impacts, leaving many young people without the care they need. The NHMRC’s review of clinical guidelines for gender-affirming care offers hope of reiterating our consistent, evidence-based approach.

Professor Ashleigh Lin (she/her)
Prof Ashleigh Lin is President of AusPATH, NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow and youth mental health researcher. Ashleigh's research is focused on the detection and prevention of mental ill health in young people, with a particular interest in the mental health of marginalised youth, including LGBTQIA+ and Aboriginal young people.

Doctor Eloise Brook (she/her)
Dr Eloise Brooke is a writer, advocate and academic. She is the Chief Executive Officer at the Australian Professional Association for Trans Health (AusPath), and has worked as a researcher and lecturer in public health policy and political science at Sydney University and Western Sydney University.
