Data Diversity: Can the ABS Standard transform LGBTIQ+ policy and planning?

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Standard for Sex, Gender, Variations of Sex Characteristics and Sexual Orientation Variables, 2020 (2020 Standard) is being progressively adopted and now used for a range of data collection. This webinar will explore how it is being used to improve data collection on LGBTIQ+ communities. 

James Mowle leads the Social Characteristics team at the Australian Bureau of Statistics. In this role, James champions better data and insights about the LGBTIQ+ community through the implementation of the Standard for Sex, Gender, Variations of Sex Characteristics, and Sexual Orientation variables.
Nicole Capper leads the Community and Family Statistics team at the Australian Bureau of Statistics. In this role, Nicole champions better data and insights about the LGBTIQ+ community through the implementation of the Standard for Sex, Gender, Variations of Sex Characteristics, and Sexual Orientation. Nicole’s career spans a range of social statistics, including crime and justice, Census, family and household statistics, as well as working with clients on measures of housing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
