Free to Exist: Participation data on LGBTIQA+ young people in sport and physical activity

Young LGBTIQA+ people continue to experience and witness alarming rates of homophobia/biphobia/ transphobia in sport and movement settings.

In this webinar, Dr Ryan Storr from Swinbourne University will share data on participation rates, experiences of discrimination, and factors influencing LGBTIQA+ young people’s engagement in sport and physical activity.

Dr Storr will then explore recommendations for creating inclusive and welcoming sports environments and engage with experts on fostering safer spaces.

Dr Ryan Storr Dr Ryan Storr (he/him): Dr Ryan Storr is a Research Fellow in the Sport Innovation Research Group at Swinburne University. He is a multi-disciplinary researcher and his research interests focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion across sport and movement settings. His work is industry focused and often collaborates with key stakeholders across the sport sector, to devise solutions focused applied research. He is also co-founder of Proud2Play, the peak organisation for LGBTIQA+ sport and active recreation in Victoria.
