National Lung Cancer Screening Program Guidelines Public Consultation

Policy Submission: National Lung Cancer Screening Program Guidelines Public Consultation

The Department of Health and Aged Care invited feedback on draft guidelines for a National Lung Cancer Screening Program, which aims to improve early detection and health outcomes for populations disproportionately impacted by lung cancer. The guidelines include a focus on priority populations, including LGBTIQA+ people, to ensure equitable access and culturally safe care.

LHA welcomed the recognition of LGBTIQA+ people as a priority population and provided recommendations to enhance inclusivity and accessibility. LHA’s submission emphasised the need for targeted outreach, culturally safe training for healthcare providers, robust data collection aligned with the ABS 2020 Standard, and measures to reduce stigma and systemic barriers. These strategies aim to improve participation rates and health outcomes for LGBTIQ+ communities.
