LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) has made a submission to the Time-Tiered Primary Care Working Group Draft Final Report, supporting reforms to Medicare that provide more equitable funding for longer consultations.
The submission highlights the importance of ensuring that consultation length is determined by clinical need, enabling comprehensive, person-centred care for LGBTIQ+ people.
LHA also advocates for flexibility to introduce targeted Medicare items where there is evidence of significant health inequity or unmet healthcare needs. The submission calls for improved collection of data on sex, gender, variations of sex characteristics and sexual orientation, consistent with the ABS 2020 Standard, to inform future primary healthcare reforms.
