LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) has provided a submission on the draft 2025 Clinical Guidelines for the Early Detection of Prostate Cancer, welcoming the recognition that people other than cisgender men – including trans women, non-binary people and intersex people – may have a prostate and benefit from early detection.
Our submission calls for stronger inclusion of LGBTIQ+ populations throughout the Guidelines. We recommend affirming decision-support tools, inclusive patient materials, and clinical guidance that reflects gender diversity. We also urge the resourcing of LGBTIQ+ community-controlled organisations to lead outreach and education, helping ensure meaningful implementation.
We support naming LGBTIQ+ populations as a priority for future research and recommend adopting the ABS Standard for Sex, Gender, Variations of Sex Characteristics and Sexual Orientation Variables, 2020 to guide inclusive data collection and monitoring.
These recommendations align with the National Action Plan for the Health and Wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ People 2025–2035 and aim to embed equity and inclusion into prostate cancer screening and care.
