About MSAC and Application 1754

What is MSAC?

The Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) advises the Government on funding new medical services through Medicare. It assesses the safety, effectiveness, and value of these services.

What is Application 1754?

Application 1754 is a proposal for Medicare to fund gender-affirming healthcare. This change would:

  • Reduce financial barriers for those seeking care
  • Improve access to essential, life-saving care
  • Support better health and wellbeing in our community.

Why is this important?

Many trans and gender-diverse people face significant barriers to accessing gender-affirming care. This change would help address inequities and save lives. The survey assessors will hear from many health professionals, organisations, and government departments, but it is the impact on consumers—trans and gender-diverse people—that will have a significant influence on whether affirmation surgery is available on the MBS. Your story is important.
