Submission: NDIA Support Coordination - LGBTIQ+ Health Australia

Submission: NDIA Support Coordination

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is reviewing whether an organisation providing Support Coordination for a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participant should also be able to provide other funded supports.

It is important to protect NDIS participants from conflicts of interest, but enforced separation could impact negatively on LGBTI people with a disability. There are not enough LGBTI organisations providing NDIS services and participants could be forced to mainstream organisations where they face discrimination and stigma.

The Alliance submission calls for support to increase the number and range of LGBTI organisations providing NDIS supports and to increasing the capacity of other organisations (such as via an approach based on the Alliance’s Silver Rainbow program that educates service providers, policy makers and others about how to meet the needs of LGBTI elders).
