It’s been three years since the nation gathered around our screens to hear the outcome of the Australian marriage equality postal survey.
In what might’ve been a cruel blow for LGBTIQ+ Australians, marriage equality instead won the support of the Australian people and the biggest YES! vote in the land was recorded in Canberra with a 74% affirmative vote - which is where Yes! Fest began.
That night, we danced until the wee hours in celebration and Australia’s new queer festival, YES! Fest was born.
Canberra has continued that tradition in both November 2018 and 2019 and it has grown to become a day and a night festival. YES! Fest has become an event that the whole country should be proud of and one that LGBTIQ+ people from around the country want to visit.
This year you can join Canberra virtually as their events are streamed online.
