MindOUT Webinar - Black and Brown Queers: Pushing back on the Whiteness of Multiculturalism

A purely statistical analysis will never be able to tell the full story on LGBT suicide.

Data on and sensitivity to specific communities within the acronym is extremely limited and there are many people who choose to take their lives by suicide before coming out or deciding to transition. This webinar takes a sociological vantage point to identify structural factors that underpin poor mental health outcomes for intersectional identities.

Bobuq Sayed is an Afghan writer, community organiser and co-coordinator of a LGBTIQA+ suicide prevention mentoring program for Queerspace. They work on community responses to care for newly arrived queer and trans refugees and, in a previous life, they were the editor of Archer Magazine, Australia’s leading journal of sex, sexuality, gender and identity.
